9 pin mini-DIN female special connector.
9 pin mini-DIN male special connector.
The Sigma DIN VGA INPUT is a proprietary 9-pin mini-DIN connector found on the Sigma Designs EM8300 MPEG decoder card, used to receive a VGA signal directly from the host PC’s standard HD-15 (DE-15) output. It carries the three analogue RGB video channels (0–0.7 V, 75 Ω) together with separate TTL-level horizontal and vertical sync, mirroring the electrical characteristics defined for VGA by IBM. Pins 8 and 9 additionally route the I2C serial data and clock lines (SDA and SCL) sourced from pins 12 and 15 of the host HD-15 connector, in accordance with the VESA Enhanced Display Data Channel (E-DDC) standard, enabling the card to participate in plug-and-play monitor identification. No open published specification for this OEM-specific connector is known to exist.

Signals
- Blue IN — analogue blue video input, 0–0.7 V peak-to-peak, 75 Ω terminated; sourced from pin 3 of the host HD-15 connector.
- GND — signal ground (pins 2 and 4); shared return for video and sync signals.
- Green IN — analogue green video input, 0–0.7 V peak-to-peak, 75 Ω terminated; sourced from pin 2 of the host HD-15 connector.
- Vsync IN — vertical synchronisation input, TTL level; sourced from pin 14 of the host HD-15 connector. VSYNC polarity encodes the display mode: −/+ = 350 lines, +/− = 400 lines, −/− = 480 lines.
- Hsync IN — horizontal synchronisation input, TTL level; sourced from pin 13 of the host HD-15 connector.
- Red IN — analogue red video input, 0–0.7 V peak-to-peak, 75 Ω terminated; sourced from pin 1 of the host HD-15 connector.
- SDA — I2C serial data line for DDC/E-DDC; sourced from pin 12 of the host HD-15 connector. Carries EDID display identification data between host and monitor.
- SCL — I2C serial clock line for DDC/E-DDC; sourced from pin 15 of the host HD-15 connector. Used in conjunction with SDA for bidirectional DDC2B communication.
Notes
- This connector is OEM-specific to the Sigma Designs EM8300 card; no open published specification is known.
- The mini-DIN 9-pin shell is mechanically identical to the S-Video 9-pin variant but carries an entirely different signal set.
- A dedicated adapter cable maps the HD-15 host output to this mini-DIN connector; the two connectors are not interchangeable.
- The +5 V DDC supply (pin 9 of the host HD-15 under VESA E-DDC) is not represented in this connector’s pinout; DDC signalling here relies on the host for power.
