ATI Radeon Video 10 pin

10-pin mini-DIN video output connector used on ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon cards (7500–X800 series) carrying S-Video, composite, and stereo audio signals.

The ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon series — including the 7500, 8500, 9700, 9800, and X800 variants — employed a proprietary 10-pin mini-DIN socket as the external video output (VID OUT) connector. A supplied breakout cable converted it to standard consumer jacks: a 4-pin S-Video female, an RCA composite female, and RCA or 3.5 mm stereo audio outputs, with some models adding component YPbPr for HDTV connections. The underlying analogue video signals are S-Video Y/C (luminance and chrominance, per IEC 60933-5) and composite CVBS (1 Vpp into 75 Ω), generated by an on-board TV encoder chip such as the Philips SAA7102/7103 or Conexant CX25870/871. This connector is distinct from the separate 8-pin VID IN socket used for video capture on the same cards.

Signals

  • S-video chrominance — colour (C) component of the S-Video signal; approximately 0.3 Vpp into 75 Ω, separated from luminance to reduce cross-colour artefacts.
  • S/PDIF ground — ground reference for the S/PDIF digital audio line; present on the connector but activation depends on card model and breakout cable.
  • SPDIF — Sony/Philips Digital Interface audio output for passing digital audio to an S/PDIF-capable receiver via the breakout cable.
  • GND — signal ground for video and audio circuits.
  • audio right — right-channel analogue stereo audio output; pin assignment may vary between Radeon models (see Notes).
  • audio GND — ground return for the analogue stereo audio outputs; may be swapped with audio right on certain Radeon 7500 cards.
  • S-video intensity — luminance (Y) component of the S-Video signal; approximately 1 Vpp into 75 Ω, carrying brightness and sync information.
  • composite video — composite CVBS video output; 1 Vpp into 75 Ω, combining luminance, chrominance, and sync on a single line.
  • audio left — left-channel analogue stereo audio output.

Notes

  • The breakout cable provided with ATI All-In-Wonder cards (compatible with Radeon 7500, 8500, and 9700 series) converts the 10-pin mini-DIN to standard consumer connectors: 4-pin S-Video female, RCA composite female, and stereo audio outputs.
  • Pin assignments for audio right (pin 6) and audio GND (pin 7) are reported to be transposed on some Radeon 7500 cards; the description column reflects this known variant.
  • No officially published pin-number table for the 10-pin external connector has been located in publicly accessible ATI documentation; the ATI All-In-Wonder 9700 Series manual (P/N 107-70336-30) describes the output signal types (S-Video, composite, stereo audio, component YPbPr) but gives pin-level detail only for the separate internal 8-pin header.
  • This connector is output-only (VID OUT); it is mechanically and electrically distinct from the 8-pin mini-DIN VID IN connector used on the same cards for video capture.
  • Simultaneous output on composite and S-Video is supported; component YPbPr output (Y=Green, Pb=Blue, Pr=Red) for HDTV connections was available on select higher-end All-In-Wonder models via a component adapter.
