DVI (Digital Visual Interface) is a video interface developed by the Digital Display Working Group (DDWG) in 1999 to carry uncompressed digital video from a computer to a display, while optionally keeping the analogue VGA signals for backward compatibility. Digital video is sent over TMDS (Transition Minimised Differential Signalling) links: a single link drives resolutions up to about 1920×1200, and a dual link adds a second set of TMDS pairs for higher resolutions. The connector comes in three variants — DVI-D (digital only), DVI-A (analogue only) and DVI-I (integrated, both); the analogue pins C1–C5 are present only on DVI-A and DVI-I. The full DVI-I connector shown here has 24 digital pins plus 5 analogue pins.
