The 1994–1997 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 uses a Mitsubishi MPI (Multi-Point Injection) engine control unit to manage the twin-turbocharged 6G72 3.0 litre DOHC V6, which also drives all four wheels via the AWD system. From the 1994 model year the turbocharged ECM uses a four-block connector (terminals 1–26, 31–46, 51–62, 71–92); the terminal numbering below follows that connector as documented in the factory service manual’s ECM terminal-voltage check chart. The Z16A platform is shared with the Dodge Stealth R/T Twin Turbo, which uses identical ECU hardware and connector assignments.

Notes

The ECU connector is a four-block housing (terminals 1–26, 31–46, 51–62, 71–92); the numbers above are the factory terminal numbers from the ECM terminal-voltage check chart. The two dedicated ECU power grounds are pins 13 and 26.

Terminals that changed for 1996+ (turbo): Engine ignition signal 58 → 51; Electric-load switch 24 → 58; Fuel-pressure solenoid 7 → 40; Turbo meter 41 → 39; Muffler-mode changeover switch 34 → 61; Heated oxygen sensor (rear) 60 → 73 and 79. A/T-only lines: “reduce-torque” request 46 and 43 (→ 60 for 1996+), execution 7.

The VR4 carries extra boost-management and AWD control circuits absent on the SOHC non-turbo (FWD) 3000GT ECU. The Dodge Stealth R/T Twin Turbo is platform-identical to the 3000GT VR4 and shares the same ECU, connector, and pin assignments.

Signals

  • Injector 1–6 — sequential fuel injector drive outputs for each cylinder of the 6G72 V6; pins 1–3 and 14–16 carry the six injector signals
  • Power Ground — chassis/power ground reference for the ECU; two pins (13 and 26) provide the dedicated ground paths
  • Air Intake Temperature Sensor — analogue signal from the intake air temperature sensor; used to correct fuelling for air density
  • O2 Sensor #1 (Right Bank) — analogue exhaust oxygen feedback signal from the right-bank front sensor; used for closed-loop fuel trim
  • O2 Sensor #2 (Left Bank) — analogue exhaust oxygen feedback signal from the left-bank front sensor; used for closed-loop fuel trim on the second bank
