The 1991–1993 Mitsubishi 3000GT (Z16A chassis) uses a Mitsubishi MPI (Multi-Point Injection) engine management system built around the 6G72 3.0 L V6 engine. The base and SL models employ the SOHC naturally-aspirated variant of the 6G72 with front-wheel drive, whilst the VR4 uses a DOHC twin-turbo variant on an all-wheel-drive platform. The ECU is connected via a multi-piece connector system whose terminal chart is published in the factory electrical service volume. The Dodge Stealth shares the identical Z16A platform and ECU hardware for its corresponding model years.

Notes

The ECU connector is divided into multiple sections (labelled by circuit function in the service manual). Terminal check procedures specify signal name, checking condition, and reference voltage or resistance for each pin. The connector is specific to the Z16A platform and is not interchangeable with Eclipse or Lancer ECU units.

Signals

  • Ignition Control Module — speed/timing signal from the ignition control module to the ECU for engine speed and ignition timing reference
  • Power Ground — chassis/power ground return; multiple ground pins (13, 26, 71) provide separate ground paths for power and signal circuits

  • Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor — analogue voltage signal proportional to coolant temperature; influences fuel enrichment and idle control
  • Throttle Position Sensor — analogue voltage proportional to throttle plate angle; used for load calculation and acceleration enrichment
  • Vehicle Speed Sensor — pulsed speed signal from the vehicle speed sensor used for idle control and fuel cut strategies
  • Mass Air Flow — analogue signal from the mass air flow meter; primary load input to the MPI fuel calculation
