The Sony Betamax multi-connector is an 8-pin combined audio, video, and remote-control interface introduced on Betamax VCRs in the Profeel series of monitors and accessories during the late 1970s and early 1980s. It carries stereo audio output (left and right channels), composite video output, and the Sony Ctrl-S serial remote-control signal, each routed through individually screened cables. The connector is uni-directional, providing output signals only; Sony’s later adoption of SCART/Peritel extended the same concept to a bidirectional interface capable of switching signal direction. The Ctrl-S ground and Ctrl-S signal are carried together with the audio and video grounds within the single multi-pin shell, making a single cable sufficient for monitor connection.

Notes
The connector is output-only; no input signals are carried on any pin. The cable is wired with four individually screened pairs — one each for Audio L, Audio R, Video, and Ctrl-S — to minimise crosstalk between audio and video signals. The 26-pin multi-connector found on the SL-2000 for tuner/timer docking is a distinct, larger accessory port and should not be confused with this 8-pin Profeel-series connector.
