6 pin DIN male connector.
6 pin DIN female connector.
The 6-pin DIN connector (DIN 45322, 60° pin spacing) shares the same 13.2 mm outer shell and 1.45 mm pin diameter as the rest of the DIN circular connector family standardised under IEC 60130-9. It was adopted by several stage-lighting and audio equipment manufacturers during the 1980s and 1990s to carry analogue 0–10V dimmer control signals and, in some products, mixed audio and control signals over a single connector. There is no single governing pinout standard for this use case: each manufacturer defined its own signal assignment, making the pin function entirely product-specific.
| Pin | |
|---|---|
| Application | 1 |
| Compulite Riggers Remote | ground |
| CCT Regal II Desk PSU | 0V |
| Green Ginger DMX | ground |
| Green Ginger/ Lightprocessor analogue control | channel 1 |
Notes
- The DIN 45322 standard specifies the connector’s mechanical dimensions (60° pin spacing, 13.2 mm shell, 1.45 mm pins on a 7.0 mm virtual circle) but does not define signal assignments for lighting control applications.
- Signal assignments are entirely manufacturer-specific. The table above documents Pin 1 only across several products; consult the relevant product service manual for the full pinout of each application.
- The 0–10V analogue dimmer control protocol carried on these connectors is defined in ANSI E1.3-2001 (ESTA): 0 V = off, 10 V = full on, linear response; controller output impedance ≤100 Ω (active); receiver input impedance nominally 100 kΩ.
- Electrical ratings per IEC 60130-9 and manufacturer data (Lumberg 0131 series): 60 Vac nominal voltage, 4 A nominal current; operating temperature −20 °C to +85 °C.
- The 6-pin DIN connector is mechanically incompatible with 5-pin (DIN 41524, 180°) and 8-pin (DIN 45326, 45°) variants despite sharing the same shell diameter; pin spacing and key positions differ.
- Do not connect equipment from different manufacturers without confirming pinout compatibility, as mismatched power and signal pins can damage equipment.
