9 pin D-SUB male connector at the device.
The E-MU 0404 is a PCI soundcard produced by E-MU Systems (Creative Professional) that provides 24-bit/96 kHz analogue conversion. Its analogue input and output signals are carried on a standard DB-9 (DE-9) male connector mounted on the card bracket; an Analogue Breakout Cable converts this to four unbalanced 1/4-inch TS jack sockets — two line inputs and two line outputs. Signal levels are −10 dBV nominal (6.4 dBV maximum), with an input impedance of 3.3 kΩ and an output impedance of 560 Ω. Digital I/O (S/PDIF and MIDI) is provided separately via a DB-15 breakout cable and is not part of this connector.

Signals
- OUT-R Signal / OUT-R Ground — right-channel analogue line output; unbalanced, −10 dBV nominal, output impedance 560 Ω.
- OUT-L Signal / OUT-L Ground — left-channel analogue line output; unbalanced, −10 dBV nominal, output impedance 560 Ω.
- IN-L Signal / IN-L Ground — left-channel analogue line input; unbalanced, −10 dBV nominal, input impedance 3.3 kΩ.
- IN-R Signal / IN-R Ground — right-channel analogue line input; unbalanced, −10 dBV nominal, input impedance 3.3 kΩ.
- Pin 1 — purpose not publicly documented; commonly listed as not connected (NC).
Notes
- The DB-9 connector on the card bracket is male (pins protruding); the breakout cable presents a female DB-9 at its card end.
- All analogue channels are unbalanced; no balanced (XLR or TRS) option exists on this connector.
- Frequency response: 20 Hz – 20 kHz (+0.20/−0.10 dB inputs; +0.05/−0.10 dB outputs). SNR: 111 dB (inputs), 116 dB (outputs), A-weighted. THD+N: −100 dB at 1 kHz.
- Sample rates supported: 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, and 96 kHz; converters are 24-bit.
- The pin-level assignments are not published in the E-MU 0404 owner’s manual.
