8 pin mini-DIN female connector at the Winnov AV capture board.
The MXC (Multimedia Extension Connector) is a proprietary interface used on Winnov Videum PCI audio and video capture cards, including the Videum 1000 Plus, 1010 Plus, 1000 VO Plus, and 4100/4400 series. Physically identical to an 8-pin Mini-DIN shell, it is electrically distinct from the PS/2 standard and carries composite video, mono line-level audio, an I2C control bus, and two separate +5 V power rails on a single cable. It was designed to connect Winnov colour video cameras and compatible third-party cameras without requiring a separate power supply, enabling plug-and-play camera attachment to a single port.
| Pin | Signal |
|---|---|
| 1 | 12C C SCL |
| 2 | 12C SDA |
| 3 | Ground |
| 4 | +5 VDC at 500 mA (unregulated from PC motherboard) |
| 5 | Ground |
| 6 | Line level audio |
| 7 | 5V at 500 mA (regulated) |
| 8 | Composite video |
Signals
- I2C SCL — I2C serial clock line; part of the control and data bus used to communicate with a connected camera or peripheral device.
- I2C SDA — I2C serial data line; carries bidirectional data on the control bus.
- Ground — signal and power return (pins 3 and 5).
- +5 VDC at 500 mA (unregulated) — power sourced from the PC motherboard; used to power attached camera electronics.
- Line level audio — mono audio input from a camera-mounted microphone, at line level.
- 5V at 500 mA (regulated) — regulated +5 V supply generated by the Videum capture card itself; provides a cleaner power source for sensitive camera circuitry.
- Composite video — analogue composite video signal from the camera to the capture card.
Notes
- The MXC connector shell is physically the same 8-pin Mini-DIN form factor used by PS/2 peripherals, but the pinout is completely different; the two are not interchangeable.
- The connector simultaneously delivers two +5 V rails: pin 4 supplies unregulated power drawn from the PC motherboard (up to 500 mA), while pin 7 supplies regulated power from the Videum card’s own regulator (up to 500 mA).
- Audio on pin 6 is mono only; stereo capture is not supported via the MXC port.
- The I2C bus on pins 1 and 2 allows the host card to enumerate and configure attached cameras.
