The Panasonic KX-TD1232 is a digital hybrid PBX system from the 1990s. Its optional DSHS (Digital Super Hybrid System) expansion unit exposes a 25-pin D-SUB male RS-232C serial interface used for SMDR (Station Message Detail Recording) call-record output and system programming from a PC. The cable is a null-modem-style RS-232C connection; the DSHS unit acts as DCE. Panasonic specifies a shielded cable with a maximum length of 2 m (6.5 ft).

Signals
- FG — Frame Ground (EIA-101/AA); connects chassis grounds between the two units.
- TXD (SD) — Transmitted Data (BA/EIA-103); serial data sent from the DSHS to the PC.

- The cable must be fully shielded; maximum permitted length is 2 m (6.5 ft) as specified by Panasonic.
