S-VHS MALE connector
SCART (also known as Péritel or EuroAV) is a 21-pin trapezoidal connector standardised as EN 50049-1 / IEC 60933-1 for interconnecting consumer audiovisual equipment, predominantly in Europe from the late 1970s onwards. Its Table 2 wiring mode carries separated luminance (Y) and chrominance (C) signals — the same S-Video format used by S-VHS recorders — on pins 19 and 15 respectively, both at 75 Ω. This adapter cable routes those output signals from a SCART source to the 4-pin mini-DIN S-Video socket found on S-VHS decks and compatible monitors, preserving the Y/C separation and avoiding the luma–chroma interference inherent in composite video.

Signals
- Ground (Y) — luminance signal ground; S-VHS pin 1 connects to SCART pin 17 (composite video / luminance ground)
- Ground (C) — chrominance signal ground; S-VHS pin 2 connects to SCART pin 13 (Red/chrominance ground in Table 2)
- Y – Intensity (Luminance) — luminance signal output from SCART pin 19 to S-VHS pin 3; 1 V p-p including sync, 75 Ω
- C – Colour (Chrominance) — chrominance signal output from SCART pin 15 to S-VHS pin 4; 0.3 V burst, 75 Ω
Notes
- This cable carries signals in one direction only: from the SCART source (e.g. a set-top box or DVD player) to an S-VHS device or monitor. For the reverse direction (S-VHS recorder to SCART input) see the S-VHS to SCART adapter.
- The SCART socket must be wired in Table 2 (S-Video) mode. Pin 16 (fast-blanking) at 0–0.4 V selects composite or Y/C mode on most equipment; some devices require pin 8 to be held at 0–2 V to signal an external device connection.
- Both signal lines are 75 Ω; keep the cable short to avoid signal degradation at S-Video frequencies (chrominance subcarrier ≈ 4.43 MHz for PAL, ≈ 3.58 MHz for NTSC).
- SCART pin 13 (Red output / chrominance ground in Table 2) is used for the C ground. This matches the EN 50049-1 Table 2 output-side specification.
