21 PIN SCART MALE to the TV
The Amiga range (A500, A2000, A3000) uses a proprietary 23-pin DB23 male video connector that carries analog RGB (Red, Green, Blue), composite sync, and power rails alongside digital RGBI and other auxiliary signals. The 21-pin Euroconnector — standardised as CENELEC EN 50049-1 — was the predominant European standard for analog RGB, composite video, and audio connection between consumer electronics and CRT televisions from the late 1980s onwards. This cable routes the Amiga’s analog RGB outputs (0.7 Vpp, 75 Ω) and composite sync from the DB23 to the corresponding SCART RGB input pins, with fast-blanking driven from the +12 V supply to switch the television into RGB mode. Audio is carried separately via phono connectors and is not routed through the SCART plug in this wiring.

Signals
- Analog Red — Red channel of the Amiga’s analog RGB output; DB23 pin 3, 0.7 Vpp into 75 Ω. Connects to SCART pin 15.
- Analog Green — Green channel of the analog RGB output; DB23 pin 4, 0.7 Vpp into 75 Ω. Connects to SCART pin 11.
- Analog Blue — Blue channel of the analog RGB output; DB23 pin 5, 0.7 Vpp into 75 Ω. Connects to SCART pin 7.
- Composite Sync — Active-low composite sync signal (CSYNC*) from DB23 pin 10; routed to SCART pin 20 (CVBS/sync input) to synchronise the display.
- Video GND — Signal ground for the RGB and sync lines; SCART pin 17 (RGB ground) and pin 19 (video ground).
- GND — Chassis or signal ground.
- +12V — +12 V supply from DB23 pin 22; used to drive the SCART fast-blanking line (pin 16) high (typically via a voltage divider or resistor to 1–3 V) to select RGB input mode on the television.
- Phono Right / Left — Right and left audio channels carried on separate phono connectors; not wired into the SCART plug in this configuration.
Notes
- The Amiga DB23 connector is a 23-pin male on the computer; the cable therefore uses a 23-pin female DB23 at the Amiga end.
- SCART pin 16 (fast-blanking) must be driven to 1–3 V for the TV to switch into RGB mode; connecting it directly to +12 V without a resistor divider may exceed the SCART specification.
- On A500 systems the supply on DB23 pin 21 is −12 V, whereas on A1000/A2000/A3000 it is −5 V; this does not affect standard RGB/SCART wiring but should be noted if other circuits are powered from the video port.
- The Amiga’s sync signals are unbuffered, as noted in the Amiga Hardware Reference Manual.
- This cable carries standard-definition analog video at 15.625 kHz (PAL) or 15.734 kHz (NTSC) horizontal scan rates and is incompatible with VGA or multiscan monitors without an additional scan converter.
