Dell Dimension 8100 Power Supply

Pinout of the Dell Dimension 8100 dual proprietary power connectors (24-pin P1 and 16-pin P2), compatible with NPS-330CB and PS-5251-1D PSUs.

The Dell Dimension 8100 (circa 2001) uses two proprietary DC power connectors — a 24-pin P1 and a 16-pin P2 — that are physically distinct from the standard Intel ATX power connectors and are not interchangeable with them. Compatible power supply units are the Dell NPS-330CB B/E and PS-5251-1D; fitting a standard ATX PSU risks immediate damage to both the supply and the motherboard. The Dimension 8100 was the last Dell desktop to employ a fully non-standard power connector arrangement before Dell transitioned to standard ATX pinouts with its Pentium 4 systems.

Notes

  • Pin 5 — PWRGOOD is a status signal generated by the power supply to notify the computer that the DC operating voltages are within the ranges required for proper computer operation.
  • Pin 13 — PSON# is the power-on control signal. It is activated by pressing and releasing the power button whilst the power supply is in standby mode; pulling PSON# to ground switches the supply to full-on condition, consistent with the active-LOW logic of the Intel ATX PS_ON# signal.
  • Pin 21 (TFSC) — thermal fan-speed control; may be unused (N/C) on some units.
  • The 24-pin P1 housing is a Molex 39-01-2240. Despite using the same Mini-Fit Jr shell family as standard ATX 24-pin connectors, the signal assignments differ; a standard ATX PSU must not be substituted.
  • Dell Precision 610 and related workstations of the same era use a physically similar 24-pin P1 connector, but the signal assignments for pins 17–24 differ from those of the Dimension 8100.
  • Compatible replacement PSUs: Dell NPS-330CB B/E and PS-5251-1D.
