5 pin mini-USB jack connector at the left side
The Symbol CS1504 (later rebranded as the Motorola CS1504) is a store-and-upload companion barcode scanner: it reads barcodes into internal flash memory and then uploads the batch to a host PC via its side-mounted data communication jack. The jack is physically shaped like a 5-pin mini-USB-B receptacle but carries RS-232 serial signals rather than USB, so standard mini-USB cables will not work. Connectivity to the host requires the dedicated serial cable (part 25-44301-01), which terminates in an RS-232C DE-9 connector at the computer end; a separate DB9-to-USB adapter (part 50-16000-386) is available for use with USB hosts. The product was introduced under the Symbol Technologies brand and carried over under Motorola following Motorola’s acquisition of Symbol in 2007.

Notes
- The connector is physically identical in shell shape to a 5-pin mini-USB-B jack but is wired as RS-232 serial; standard mini-USB cables are incompatible.
- Pin labelled “x” corresponds to the ID/shield position in the mini-USB-B shell; its precise position in the connector body relative to numbered pins 1–4 is not detailed in the manufacturer’s owner’s manual.
- The standard scanner cable (part 25-44301-01) presents an RS-232C DE-9 connector at the host end. A DB9-to-USB adapter (part 50-16000-386) must be used in addition to this cable to connect to USB hosts; there is no native USB mode.
