The Nintendo Wii Remote (model RVL-003, later RVL-036 as the Wii Remote Plus) is the primary controller for the Wii console, introduced in 2006. It communicates with the console wirelessly over Bluetooth 2.0 in the 2.4 GHz ISM band (2402–2480 MHz), implementing the Bluetooth SIG Human Interface Device Profile 1.0 via L2CAP channels (HID Control PSM 0x11; HID Interrupt PSM 0x13). The underside expansion port is a proprietary 6-pin connector that exposes a 3.3 V supply and a 400 kHz fast-I²C bus; accessories such as the Nunchuk, Classic Controller, and Wii MotionPlus attach here and communicate at I²C slave address 0x52. Nintendo published no public connector or electrical specification for this port.

Notes

The expansion connector is keyed and proprietary; no third-party connector specification has been published. The I²C bus operates at 400 kHz (fast mode). Communications between the Wii Remote and attached accessories employ a XOR-based encryption scheme. The Wii Remote Plus (RVL-036) integrates MotionPlus functionality internally but retains the same expansion port for backward compatibility with non-MotionPlus accessories.
