The Apple iPod Shuffle 2nd generation uses a single 4-pin 3.5 mm (or 2.5 mm) jack socket on the device that serves simultaneously as a headphone output and a USB data/charge port. This combined connector scheme is specific to the Shuffle 2G; its pin order differs from the otherwise identical-looking socket on the 3rd generation Shuffle, making the cables incompatible. Only the pins listed below are covered here.

Notes

  • This connector is used for both headphones and charging.
  • To force charging connect pins 1,2 and 4 to VCC and pin 3 to GND.
  • Warning: The pinout for the G2 and G3 shuffles are not identical, even though the connectors are the same. The 2nd generation cables and docks are incompatible with the iPod shuffle 3rd generation.
